8-inch hand-pressed tortillas

Corn and flour tortillas made from nixtamalized heirloom corn, pressed to order and cooked on a comal until they blister.

Angus top choice

Our sirloin tacos, carne asada, and burrito de asada start with Angus top choice beef, grilled over wood and sliced thin.

Recipes from the heart of Mexico

Built on family techniques and real ingredients, not trends. Traditional guisos like chicharrón prensado, cochinita pibil, discada and picadillo — done the way they are made in Mexico.

Cheese hidden in the mini tacos

Only our mini tacos hide a layer of mozzarella and Mexican cheese blend between the tortillas so it melts into a warm, creamy center.

Late-night weekends

Open until 3am Friday and Saturday. When most taco counters are closed, Al Taco is still grilling.

To the moon touch

Mini tacos finished with our signature 'to the moon' touch — a small detail that makes every bite memorable.

Handmade tortillas.
Every single day.

We start with heirloom maize, cook it in limewater, grind it fresh and press each tortilla to order. The result is a sturdy, fragrant base that can hold grilled Angus beef, slow-braised pork, or roasted mushrooms without tearing. It is the difference between a good taco and a great one.

Angus beef.
Sirloin tacos.

Our sirloin tacos start with choice Angus beef, seasoned simply, seared over hardwood and sliced thin. The clean, beef-forward flavor pairs with charred onion, fresh cilantro and a bright salsa roja. For diners who want a steak experience inside a taco, this is the move.

Hecho en casa

Traditional Mexican
guisos

We make traditional Mexican guisos that are true to Mexico. Slow-simmered stews, saucy meats and heritage recipes passed down through generations — cooked the same way they have been for centuries. No shortcuts, no substitutions, just the real flavors of home.

The Al Taco
story

to the moon

Al Taco was built on a simple idea: the best Mexican food comes from patience. Corn takes time. Fire takes time. Salsas taste better when they are ground the same day they are served. We are not chasing trends; we are making the food we grew up eating — tacos, traditional guisos, burritos, quesadillas, flautas — with ingredients that speak for themselves.

From dishes dating back to the 1700s, our flavor emerges from Mexican traditions and reaches to the moon.

Maybe man has not made it to the moon, maybe, but rumor has it our flavors and delicious smells make it to the moon... maybe Katy Perry can give us more info.

Located in San Antonio at La Cantera Terrace, we serve lunch, dinner and late-night plates seven days a week. Order online for pickup or land where true flavor launches into space, at Al Taco & to the MOON! right below the stairs at Eilan.

Questions

What makes Al Taco different from other taco places in San Antonio?

We press 8-inch corn and flour tortillas by hand from nixtamalized heirloom corn. We use Angus top choice beef, cook over wood, hide cheese between the tortillas of our mini tacos, and stay open until 3am on Friday and Saturday. Our recipes come from the heart of Mexico, and our mini tacos carry a signature 'to the moon' finish. That combination is hard to find within a 30-mile radius.

How big are your tortillas?

Our tacos are served on 8-inch corn and flour tortillas — bigger than a typical street taco, sturdy enough to hold grilled Angus beef, slow-braised pork, or roasted mushrooms without tearing. Every tortilla is hand-pressed and cooked on a comal until it blisters.

What is a sirloin taco?

A sirloin taco starts with Angus top choice beef, seared over hardwood, sliced thin and finished with lime, cilantro, onion and salsa roja. It is a leaner, steak-forward take on a classic taco.

Do you make your tortillas by hand?

Yes. Every corn tortilla is made from nixtamalized heirloom maize, hand-pressed and cooked on a comal until it blisters. We also make our flour tortillas by hand for burritos and quesadillas.

What does 'cheese hidden between tortillas' mean on the mini tacos?

Only our mini tacos hide cheese between the tortillas, where mozzarella and a Mexican cheese blend melt into a warm, creamy layer. It is a small detail that changes every bite.

Does Al Taco serve burritos, quesadillas and flautas?

Yes. In addition to tacos, the menu includes burritos stuffed with Angus sirloin or chicken, quesadillas folded in hand-pressed corn tortillas with mozzarella and a Mexican cheese blend, and crispy flautas topped with queso fresco and crema.

Can I host a small party or birthday at Al Taco?

Yes. Our terrace at La Cantera Terrace is set up for small parties and celebrations. We bring out a traditional large Mexican piñata, serve tacos and seasonal terrace items like vaso de elote and churros, and can help make the space feel like a real occasion.

Where is the Eilan fountain and stairwalk?

The Eilan fountain and stairwalk are right next to Al Taco at La Cantera Terrace in San Antonio. Guests often take photos there before or after a meal or piñata party.
